The Department of Plant Production in the College of Agriculture at Hebron university hosted the Directorates of Agriculture in Hebron Governorate and the General Administration of Plant Protection and Quarantine in the Ministry of Agriculture in Ramallah in a workshop on introducing the emergency response project to reduce the risk of Fall Armyworm.
Representatives from the General Department of Plant Protection at the Ministry of Agriculture gave an explanation about the emergency response project to reduce the risk of Fall Armyworm. In addition to providing a detailed explanation about the mechanisms of control, follow-up and prevention of the dangers of Fall Armyworm, which leads to the losses of many important agricultural crops in Palestine, especially corn and some vegetable crops. In addition, the workshop included a presentation on the most important methods of smart agriculture in combating this pest and predicting its occurrence, through the presence of smart mobile applications.
The Department of Plant Production and Protection in the Faculty of Agriculture at Hebron University, in the cooperation with Cooperative Society of Palm Growers in Jericho, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture, and the Palestinian Palm Council, organized scientific lectures on palm cultivation in Palestine.
Agricultural engineer Ahmed Al-Hafiz and Dr. Hussam Al-Saeed gave lectures on the reality of the date palm sector in Palestine and the world, methods of date production from the beginning of cultivation to packing and grading operations in farms and companies, specifications and standards for Palestinian dates, quality, public safety and health safety related to date production.
Also, a field visit had previously been carried out by the students of the department to palm farms and packing and grading centers for dates in Jericho and the Jordan Valley.
