Short Bio
Stylianos is a Learning Innovator, Project Manager, and Researcher at the University of Patras, Greece. His areas of professional expertise and research are Learning Innovation, E-learning, Virtual Worlds, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Gamification, Serious Games, Open Education, and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). He has published over 30 articles in peer-reviewed international journals, conference proceedings, and books. He has extensive teaching experience in European and US universities.
He is actively involved in European projects and international research. Between 2016-2020, he participated as an Expert in Technology Enhanced Learning in CEDEFOP’s Community of Practice of VET Learning Providers. He was the Content Manager for European Commission’s official website on E-learning, Open Education Europa (2015). There, among other tasks, he co-designed and coordinated several webinars on Digital Teaching Innovation and E-learning. He has also served as Online Discussion Animator and Social Media Moderator for the Digital Agenda Assembly (2012) and for the Education in the Digital Era conference (2014). He is invited frequently to present and speak in European Commission events. His most recent invited talk was at the European Commission’s DG GROW High-Level Conference “Promoting Online Training Opportunities for the Workforce in Europe” (2019). Currently, he is participating as a certified project manager (PMP) in two Erasmus+ projects.
His formal studies include a Ph.D. at the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Jyväskylä (Finland), a MA in Education in Virtual Worlds at the University of West of England Bristol (UK), an MSc in Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (Greece) and a Postgraduate Certificate at the Open University of Catalonia (Spain).
